AWS Cloud Storage & Firmware Updates
Scalable AWS architecture for cloud storage and OTA firmware updates, featuring S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and Cognito authentication.
The Challenge
A US-based sportfishing startup needed a scalable cloud infrastructure to manage data uploads, retrievals, and seamless over-the-air firmware updates for their connected devices. The system required secure user authentication and a foundation for future IoT expansions.
Our Approach
We designed a comprehensive AWS architecture leveraging serverless services for high performance and scalability.
Cloud Storage
Amazon S3 provides reliable and scalable storage for data and firmware files, with efficient multipart upload support for large files.
Serverless Functions
Five AWS Lambda functions handle the core operations — three for multipart data uploads and two for data retrieval, firmware version checking, and fetching updates.
API Layer
AWS API Gateway integrates with Lambda functions to create robust APIs for uploading, retrieving, and managing data. Authenticated using Cognito ID tokens for secure access control.
Authentication
AWS Cognito manages user login and permissions, ensuring only authorized users can access firmware updates and data management features.
